Several months back, our friends at Xtreme Obedience came to three local schools and two churches, they brought a message of obedience, using their dogs. How neat! They had several messages tied in together using the dogs. IT was incredible, our kids loved it! God is definitely glorified through this ministry! It gave a visual of our love for Jesus and His love for us! Check them out if you haven’t already and book them to come to your event! Xtreme Obedience link
Skip ahead about 8 months, I watch Chance, work and train the dogs just about everyday and help when I can. A few weeks back, God spoke using Mercy, our puppy , I just thought about how young she was and she already knew who her master was, she loves him, she obeys him, she gets so excited when he comes to get her to train. I thought to myself, man that is exactly how we should be about Jesus, no matter how young you are, you still have the opportunity to follow and obey Christ. HE loves the little children, He loves us all! We are HIS children!
So I decided, this would be a great “back to school” lesson for our Wednesday night church kids, they loved it when Mr. Justin and Mr. Kelly came, so why not! Of course it wasn’t exactly the same and we did way less. So Chance loaded up June and Mercy and came to church!
Before we went outside to see the pups, we read this “I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Pslam 16:8
I explained to the kiddos, who Mercy and June were and how old they were and spoke about keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, our master, (“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb 12:1-2) love that. Fix our eyes on Jesus. We encouraged the kids to do just that, keep their eyes on Jesus.
As Mercy “sits” and watches her master, never taking her eyes off of him, she is able to learn and obey! She could easy run off and chase her own dreams, and go get her toys (bumpers), she could go towards all the distractions (a group of kids). But she doesn’t, she sits and watches and waits for her command because she loves him. Even as young as she is! I love that. I love the message in this. Are you watching, waiting and listening to Jesus?
Next up was our June bug, I explained to the kids that June was older and had been through more advanced training, and she loves her Master to!
She will do anything to please him, we let the kids throw bumpers for her to go retrieve, they loved that! June is so fast but yet she waits patiently for her command to go retrieve them! The kids also got to go hide bumpers wherever they chose, without June watching, (a blind) which was fun to, then she had to listen to her master to find them! They thought that was very neat! We encouraged the kids to also be like Jesus and listen to and obey Him!
Overall, we pray, the kids really keep this in mind as they begin this school year, to listen, to wait, to obey, and to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus! There was a lot more we spoke about but those are the main points! Thank you Lord for using these dogs to teach US!!
